Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and organizing dental instruments, equipment, and supplies in accordance with infection prevention management and aseptic techniques.
- Assist dentists during various procedures including general dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all tools and materials are readily available.
- Take high-quality dental x-rays and medical imaging while adhering to dental sterilization procedures and radiation safety standards.
- Manage patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; document treatment notes accurately following medical documentation protocols.
- Perform vital signs assessments and review medical history to support comprehensive patient care while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care instructions, and answer questions regarding dental terminology and procedures.
- Support the dental reception team by scheduling appointments through patient management software and assisting with administrative duties as needed.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a dental clinic environment is highly preferred, especially with pediatric dentistry practices.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and dental sterilization procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix Ascend, Archy, or Epic for managing dental records and documentation.
- Knowledge of dental equipment operation including 3D scanners, dental x-ray machines, and other clinical tools.
- X-Ray certification is highly desirable
- Understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control standards along with aseptic technique to ensure patient safety.
- Ability to communicate effectively using medical terminology relevant to dentistry and oral health care.
- Certification in dental assisting or related fields is advantageous;
- Willingness to be crossed trained
