Position Description
Prominent and growing law firm based in the Tri-State area is seeking a Controller/Accounting Manager reporting to the CFO to oversee all accounting aspects of the firm. The Controller/Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting and managing the general ledger, accounts receivables and collections, payables, cash reporting and payroll. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and internal controls including GAAP, preferably within a law firm.
While not necessary, a CPA certification would be helpful along with experience in integrated accounting and case management systems used by law firms.
Key Responsibilities
· Financial Reporting. Prepare timely and accurate financial statements to GAAP standards including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow reports.
· Upgrade/Improve Systems. Work with the CFO and CTO and lawyers to leverage and upgrade the accounting software to a more integrated overall system.
· Accounting Oversight. Lead and mentor the accounting and billing staff including general ledger, accounts receivables and collections, payables, cash reporting and payroll.
· Establishment of KPI’s. With the CFO work on the establishment of KPI’s for all aspects of accounting and financial management.
· Tax Compliance. Oversee tax reporting and compliance, ensuring timely submission of all required filings.
· Annual audit. With the CFO, work with the external auditors in the preparation of the audited statements.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA or CMA certification a plus.
· Minimum of 5-7 years experience in accounting with at least 3 years a managerial level.
· Experience in a legal firm highly desirable.
· Good knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations and compliance.
· Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of legal accounting software highly desirable.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
