Under the direction of the Chief Mechanic, the incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment from small gas engines such as snow blowers to diesel trucks including heavy duty construction machinery such as bulldozers, pay loaders, fork lifts, and trailers. In addition, the Sr. Mechanic will train, mentor, and supervise the work of up to 3 General Mechanics. The Sr. Mechanic will oversee the day-to-day functions of the garage, and are able to ensure the proper service and safety of all vehicles serviced by the Public Works department. High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Seven (7) plus years of related experience is required. Must be an ASE Certified Mechanic including appropriate certification in brake maintenance. Thorough knowledge of the operation and construction of the internal combustion engines, automotive components, and hydraulic assemblies of heavy-duty equipment. Ability to work well with other departments and exhibit a cooperative team spirit as well as be willing to take direction from others. Must maintain a valid driver's license; must provide a yearly DMV Certified Driving History. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Serves on call from November 1 through April 1. Must be available for maintenance during snow storms and inclement weather.
