About the Opportunity
Our Trusts & Estates practice is seeking a highly skilled Senior Associate for a domestic trusts & estates role with 6+ years of experience to join a dynamic and growing team. The ideal candidate brings exceptional drafting capabilities, deep attention to detail, and a genuine interest in sophisticated domestic estate planning. The candidate should also have experience with Surrogate’s Court practice and estate/trust administration. An LL.M. in Taxation is strongly preferred and will be viewed favorably.
This role focuses on sophisticated domestic estate planning, estate and trust administration, and Surrogate’s Court matters for high-net-worth individuals and families.
Responsibilities
- Draft and refine complex estate planning instruments, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, health care proxies, and related documents
- Guide clients and fiduciaries through the full lifecycle of estate and trust administration, including probate matters, fiduciary accounting, and asset marshaling and distribution
- Conduct research and prepare memoranda addressing U.S. federal and state estate, gift, GST, fiduciary income, and related tax considerations
- Support partners on sophisticated domestic estate planning engagements for high-net-worth individuals and families, including tax-efficient wealth transfer, business succession, and multigenerational planning strategies
- Manage client communications with professionalism and clarity, collaborating closely with fiduciaries, financial advisors, accountants, and other professional partners
- Contribute to team development by mentoring junior associates and supporting practice initiatives where appropriate
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in domestic trusts & estates and transfer tax practice at a law firm
- Experience with Surrogate’s Court proceedings and fiduciary administration strongly preferred
- LL.M. in Taxation preferred
- Licensed to practice law in New York; New Jersey and/or Florida strongly preferred in addition to New York
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with precision
- A proactive, team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when needed
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package of $190,000-$240,000, discretionary bonuses, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, 401(k), and ongoing professional development support.
Pay: $190,000.00 - $240,000.00 per year
