POSITION TITLE: Plumber
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months
FLSA EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.
- Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Maintains the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures district-wide
- Follows safe work procedures by making proper use of signs, safety equipment, scaffolds, ladders, and safety barriers.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately maintain records, as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.
- Document work order requests with appropriate information regarding time, materials and resolution.
- Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems.
- Plan, install and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls; test pipe systems and fixtures for leaks.
- Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders
- Inspects, maintains and operates assigned vehicles in according with the UCPS fleet use guidelines.
- Inspects equipment for defects prior to use. Removes equipment from operation and communicates to supervision regarding requests for replacements.
- Effectively communicates with internal stakeholders to schedule repairs and or replacement of structures, etc.
- Effectively produce professionally written correspondence across various communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Minimum Qualifications
● High School Diploma or equivalent
● Valid North Carolina driver’s license
● Minimum three (3) years of commercial plumbing experience or the equivalent
combination of industry training and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of local and state regulatory plumbing codes and requirements.
- Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.
- Methods, materials, techniques, tools, and equipment used in repair, maintenance, and construction work.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
● Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or group.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
● Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
● Must be adaptable to performing in stressful and emergency situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work Environment: Medium/Heavy Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 60 lbs., prolonged standing, frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
- Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
- Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices.
- Environmental Conditions: Varies from indoor exposure to outside weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.
- Hazards: Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, cleaning chemicals, lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment). Confined Space entry and work in potentially under hazardous environmental conditions.
