JOB
The purpose of this classification is to perform manual work functions associated with the installation, maintenance, fabrication, and/or repair of traffic signs, street markers, and pavement markings.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs manual work functions associated with the installation, maintenance, fabrication, and/or repair of traffic signs, street markers, and pavement markings; digs trenches, operates paint machines, operates concrete saw, runs cable, installs signs, raised pavement markers, and traffic signals, replaces lamps, etc.Installs and maintains traffic signs and street markers within the City of Albany and Dougherty County; installs signs, checks/cleans and/or replaces signs and posts as needed; installs traffic control devices for detours (street closings); sets up safety signs/cones; may flag traffic.Installs roam striping on pavement; installs reflective markers on pavement including arrows, stop bars, school names, railroad crossings, etc.May perform various groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, trimming shrubbery and tree limbs, collecting trash, raking leaves, removing trees and stumps, operating chipper/shredder, removing sawdust, and filling holes.Operates a variety of vehicles, machinery and equipment in the performance of duties, such as dump trucks, jack hammers, backhoe, pipe saw, tamping machine, boring machine, tap machine, probing rod, chipper, thermoplastic applicator, spray system on truck-mounted striping machine, paint machines, bituminous applicator for installation of reflective markers, trencher, torches, eradicator, shovels, rakes, picks, and/or assorted hand tools.Cleans and maintains machinery and equipment; performs pre-trip inspection of assigned trucks and performs routine maintenance; may prepare vehicle maintenance report and forward to supervisor.Assists in maintaining inventory of parts, equipment, tools or supplies; receives incoming parts; initiates requests for new or replacement materials; loads/unloads assigned trucks and transports parts/supplies to work sites in order to complete work functions.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSPerforms other related duties as required.
