Position Overview
HRF Inspection & Testing NYC is offering a paid internship opportunity for motivated college students pursuing degrees in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. This internship provides hands-on exposure to NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) inspection processes, including Chapter 17 Special Inspections, TR1, TR8, Progress Inspections, and Energy Code inspections & In Field TR2 Concrete Testing
This role is ideal for students seeking real-world construction, inspection, and engineering experience in the NYC metro area while working under the supervision of New York State Licensed Professional Engineers (PEs).

Internship Responsibilities
NYC DOB Inspections Exposure
Interns will assist and observe in the following areas:
- NYC Building Code Chapter 17 Special Inspections, including:
- Structural elements
- Concrete and steel-related inspections (as applicable)
- TR1 Special Inspections (assisting certified inspectors and PEs)
- TR8 Energy Code Inspections, including:
- Envelope, mechanical, and energy-related field observations
- TR2 Concrete Field Testing
Progress & Energy Inspections
- Assist with progress inspections during construction
- Support energy inspections, including documentation and field verification
- Observe inspection procedures and reporting requirements per NYC DOB
Field & Office Support
- Participate in construction site visits across NYC
- Assist with field documentation, photographs, and inspection notes
- Support preparation of inspection reports and DOB close-out documentation
- Learn how approved drawings and codes are applied in the field

Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program in:
- Architecture
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Interest in construction, inspections, and NYC building codes
- Ability to travel to job sites within the NYC metro area
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Must have valid driving license
- Must have own car

Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework related to structures, construction, or building systems
- Basic familiarity with construction drawings
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety (or willingness to obtain)

- All internship activities will be performed under the direct supervision of NYS Licensed Professional Engineers and certified inspectors
- Structured exposure to DOB procedures, field inspections, and professional engineering practice
