Natural Gas Crewman / Pipeline Welder (Hands-On Field Work)
Location: Oak Ridge, TN
Company: ORUD Natural Gas (55 employees – stable, growing local utility)
ORUD is seeking an experienced underground construction crewman who can also weld when needed.
This is not a full-time welding position. Most days you’ll be on a gas crew doing construction, maintenance, and general labor. When welding is needed, you’ll step in and handle it.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Natural Gas Crewman/Pipeline Welder serves as a crewmember responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas mains, service lines, valves, and related piping systems, to include welding as needed.
Day-to-Day Crew Work (Majority of the Job):
- Digging, backfilling, grading, and general gas line work
- Running equipment (backhoe, mini-ex, directional boring, etc.)
- Using hand tools and power tools
- Weed-eating and clearing rights-of-way
- Assisting with gas line installs, repairs, and service work
- Working outside in all weather
Welding (As Needed):
- Pipe welding for natural gas distribution
- Downhill welding
- Welding on or around active lines when required
- Helping maintain weld quality and pass inspections
What We’re Looking For
You MUST have:
- Some real pipe welding experience (not just shop or plate)
- Experience in construction, utilities, or similar field work
- Willingness to work as a laborer first, welder second
- Good attitude and show up ready to work
- Valid driver’s license
Big Plus If You Have:
- Natural gas or pipeline experience
- Downhill welding experience
- Experience working around live gas lines
- Equipment operating experience
- Class A CDL

- Pay depends on experience and skill level. Higher starting pay available for experienced underground utility and pipeline operators.

Schedule
- Full-time, Monday to Friday 8-5
