About the Role
The Log Yard Heavy Equipment Operator reports to the Log Yard Heavy Equipment Senior Operator. Responsibilities include but not limited to; following all safety and work procedures; loading and unloading materials in a safe and efficient manner using heavy machinery; assisting in loading the saw line infeed if production deems necessary; clean industrial equipment and workstations; perform daily inspections of mobile equipment and complete required forms; and other duties assigned.
Shift Schedule

Shift Hours: 5:00 PM – 3:00 AM (Night Shift).

Workdays: Monday through Friday (Enjoy your weekends off!).
What You'll Do
-
Follow safety and work procedures
-
Load and unload materials in a safe and efficient manner using heavy machinery
-
Infeed – using the 988k Caterpillar to unload log trucks and stage material on the infeed deck or storage area
-
Outfeed – using the Liebherr & High Lift to unload logs from a variety of sorted bins into their corresponding inventory location
-
Assisting in loading the saw line infeed if production deems in necessary
-
Clean industrial equipment and workstations
-
Perform daily inspections of heavy equipment and complete required forms
-
General maintenance of equipment
-
Other duties as assigned
✅ What We’re Looking For
-
Previous experience in lumber yard operations, forestry, or heavy manufacturing is highly preferred.
-
Experience safely operating heavy industrial machinery (e.g., log loaders, large forklifts, front-end loaders, or cranes).

Ability to perform basic pre-shift inspections, identify warning signs of mechanical wear, and troubleshoot minor issues.

Ability to use two-way radios and hand signals clearly to coordinate movements with ground crews, millwrights, and supervisors.
Preferred Qualities

High focus on safety to navigate hazardous, fast-paced environments and avoid nearby hazards.

Strong communication skills to coordinate efficiently with millwrights, sorters, and other crew members.

Precision in stacking, organizing, and loading heavy timber products without damaging inventory.

A proactive drive to cross-train on multiple machine types and smoothly transition between different equipment to support the team where needed.

Perform essential functions of job that includes walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Excellent hand-eye coordination

Ability to stand/walk for long periods

Frequent lifting, bending, and handling heavy materials

Exposure to moving mechanical equipment

Capacity to work in all weather conditions
