PURPOSE STATEMENT: Using their knowledge of theories and practices of Early Childhood Education, the Mentor/Coach participates in site visits, classrooms observations, and work groups to assess program needs; provides guidance and support to staff with implementation of curriculum / individualization plans and ongoing assessments; develops and disseminates resources and best practices for the process of implementing quality improvement efforts.
This position may conduct classroom monitoring to ensure compliance with federal Head Start program performance standards.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist in the mentoring, coaching and training of education staff to support school readiness measures and program quality.
· Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to teachers improving teacher-child interactions and curriculum implementation that supports positive child outcomes towards school readiness.
· Provide technical support and assistance to classroom teachers as assigned, including direct coaching and mentoring of education staff to improve instructional practices and classroom quality.
· Provide regular classroom observations using the specified evidence-based tools CLASS, Creative Curriculum Fidelity Tool, etc. Under the direction of the Education Manager assist with the planning and monitoring of education component services.
· Provides reflective coaching and mentoring to the teachers to ensure the implementation of the education program reflective of the BTW philosophy and curriculum; promote and support professional development of the education staff.
· Ensures teacher-child interactions and instruction is responsive, intentional and developmentally appropriate to ensure children are provided socially supportive, organized, and instructionally meaningful interactions to support their development (i.e., social-emotional, physical, cognitive and language) and learning (i.e., literacy, math, science, technology, social studies, and the arts).
· Participates in the development of program policies, service delivery plans, and ongoing monitoring of program quality.
· Ensures all mandates of Head Start performance standards, state and local licensing are met.
· Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and legal requirements.
· Respect and maintain rights and privacy of all staff, parents, and children.
· Adhere to Standards of Conduct and BTW policies and procedures.
· Attend mandated trainings, meetings and seek out professional development opportunities.
· Work as a team member with all staff and maintain a positive work ethic.
· Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (Head Start Performance Standard 1302.91 requires a Bachelor’s / advanced Degree in early childhood education and equivalent coursework in early childhood education with early education teaching experience).
LICENSES OR CERTIFCATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
· Two (2) years of professional level experience coaching teachers in an early childhood education environment. For example: developing and implementing of training for teaching staff; or preschool teaching including monitoring and evaluating preschool programs.
· Experience analyzing data and writing detailed reports and collecting, organizing, reviewing, and analyzing data to identify needs.
· Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
· Ideal candidate communicates effectively written and orally in a variety of settings, with the ability to collaborate with internal and external partners, and works cooperatively with other BTW employees, members of the outside agencies. The candidate possesses flexible problem-solving skills, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems, to plan, organize and coordinate program requirements. Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards, Arizona Department of Health Service, Child Licensure. Six Strategies of Active Supervision, and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework is beneficial. The ability to understand and implement complex federal regulations, such as Arizona Child Care Licensing or Head Start Performance Standards is desired but not required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work environment is the normal office setting, travel from site to site.
