Kenowa Hills Public Schools is seeking a passionate, creative, and student-centered Elementary Art Teacher to join the team at Zinser Elementary. The successful candidate will inspire students to develop creativity, artistic expression, critical thinking, and confidence through engaging visual arts experiences.
The Art Teacher will cultivate a classroom where every student is encouraged to explore, create, take risks, and develop an appreciation for the visual arts while connecting artistic learning to culture, history, innovation, and the world around them.

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate Visual Arts endorsement (LQ) required.

Bachelor's Degree in Art Education or closely related field required.

Master's Degree in Art Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field preferred.

Experience teaching elementary visual arts preferred.

Knowledge of the Michigan Academic Standards for Visual Arts.

Demonstrated ability to develop engaging, standards-based art instruction that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and artistic growth.

Experience integrating technology into visual arts instruction preferred.
-
Experience incorporating interdisciplinary connections between art and core academic content preferred.
-
Experience with project-based learning and inquiry-based instruction preferred.

Experience with Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH), trauma-informed instructional practices, restorative practices, or willingness to participate in district professional learning.

Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, interventionists, instructional coaches, administrators, students, and families.

Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive instructional practices.

Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned visual arts instruction for elementary students.

Foster creativity, artistic expression, imagination, and problem-solving through a variety of artistic media and techniques.

Develop lessons that encourage students to explore artistic processes while building technical skills and appreciation for the visual arts.

Provide opportunities for students to create, reflect, revise, present, and celebrate their artistic work.

Integrate visual arts with science, technology, engineering, mathematics, literacy, and social studies when appropriate.

Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, physical, and social-emotional needs of diverse learners.

Build positive relationships with students while creating a classroom culture aligned with Capturing Kids' Hearts and trauma-informed instructional practices.

Utilize formative and summative assessment to monitor student progress and inform instruction.

Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging art classroom, including proper use, storage, and maintenance of art supplies, equipment, and materials.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

Display student artwork throughout the school and assist with school and district art exhibitions as appropriate.

Supervise students during art instruction, specials, assemblies, field trips, and other assigned school activities.

Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), district professional development, school improvement initiatives, and collaborative planning.

Maintain accurate attendance and student records.

Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and community members.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

This is an in-person teaching position requiring regular on-site attendance. The essential functions of this position involve direct instruction, supervision of students, collaboration with colleagues, and hands-on artistic learning experiences and therefore cannot be performed remotely.

This position requires the ability to:

Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, and move throughout classrooms and school facilities for extended periods.

Lift, carry, push, pull, and move instructional materials, art supplies, display materials, storage containers, easels, drying racks, and classroom furniture weighing up to 50 pounds.

Utilize computers, interactive displays, document cameras, projectors, and instructional technology throughout the workday.

Demonstrate and safely facilitate the use of age-appropriate art tools, materials, and equipment.

Supervise students during classroom instruction, specials, assemblies, field trips, art displays, and other school activities.

Move quickly to respond to student safety concerns, emergencies, or accidents.

Maintain emotional regulation, sound judgment, and professionalism while responding to disruptive student behaviors or crisis situations.

Implement district-approved de-escalation strategies and participate in CPI and/or Ukeru training as assigned.

Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners.

Work in environments with varying noise levels, multiple simultaneous activities, and evolving instructional needs while maintaining student engagement and safety.
The work environment may include moderate to high noise levels associated with collaborative art projects, hands-on activities, and elementary specials instruction.
