Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Construction Laborer to join our civil construction team. In this role, you will assist with earthwork, underground utility installation, aggregate base placement, concrete and sidewalk preparation, and general site construction activities. You will work alongside equipment operators, pipe crews, and foremen to complete projects safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in quality work, and is willing to perform a variety of physical tasks in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with earthwork, grading, trenching, backfilling, and compaction
- Support the installation of water, sewer, storm drain, electrical, and other underground utilities
- Assist with laying pipe, setting structures, installing fittings, and connecting utility systems
- Place, spread, rake, and compact aggregate base and other construction materials
- Prepare subgrade and forms for sidewalks, curb, gutter, concrete, and paving
- Use hand and power tools, including shovels, rakes, compactors, saws, and laser or grade-checking equipment
- Check grades and elevations using grade stakes, lasers, and measuring tools
- Assist equipment operators by spotting, directing trucks, and maintaining safe work areas
- Install trench protection, traffic-control devices, erosion-control materials, and job-site barricades
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA requirements
- Perform other construction-related duties as assigned by the foreman or superintendent
Qualifications
- Previous +1 year experience in civil construction, earthwork, underground utilities, concrete preparation, or a related field preferred
- Experience installing water, sewer, storm drain, or electrical utilities is a plus
- Basic knowledge of grading, compaction, trench safety, and construction practices
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and small construction equipment safely
- Ability to read a tape measure and understand basic grades, elevations, and construction markings
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
- Ability to lift heavy materials and perform physically demanding work
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job-site conditions
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or extended shifts when required
