POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the SACC Coordinator, the Y’s Kids Lead Counselor provides a quality experience to children and parents that focus on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide leadership and motivation in the planning and carrying out of all activities. This includes promoting the integration of the weekly themes into activities.
- Communicate information from coordinator to counselors and to parents as needed.
- Delegate jobs to counselors to ensure all required duties and responsibilities are carried out whenever needed. (Examples – cleaning up, giving out medications, etc.)
- Ensure all job segments set forth by each counselor’s job description are followed on a daily basis.
- Monitor all discipline beyond the time-outs. Communicate and consult with the Coordinator on discipline matters. Attend discipline meetings as necessary.
- Be a proper role model to the counselors in working with the children and their parents.
- Carry your group’s emergency packets to every location.
- Daily checking of bags to make sure all required supplies are in them.
- Monitor attendance on a daily basis and keep counselor/camp ratio at or below State standards.
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility and demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
- Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- All other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of 1 year of college in education or related experience.
- Have a working knowledge of elementary school aged children, their developmental stages, and must plan activities according to the capabilities and interest.
- Ability to work in a team setting, value education and have a working knowledge of leisure time activities in the areas of recreational youth sports, arts, and crafts.
- Able to relate to children and parents and must stay within the YMCA safety guidelines and regulations.
- Certifications: CPR/FA, within 30 days of hire
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
- Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
- Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
- Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
- May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- Work in different temperature environments.
