Serving more than 10,000 Georgians, River Edge continues to be one of the state's leading resources for mental health, substance use disorder treatments and supports as well as individuals with intellectual and development disabilities. River Edge offers outpatient services at our Emery Highway-Macon, Monroe County and Baldwin County locations. Outpatient services include behavioral health, nursing, and psychiatric assessment, stabilization and medication maintenance services as well as crisis intervention services as well as awareness, education and recovery groups.
Position Summary
The Security Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, leadership, and operational management of the River Edge Security Department. This position oversees a team of approximately ten (10) or more Security Officers assigned throughout the River Edge footprint, including administrative offices, outpatient clinics, residential programs, crisis facilities, and 24/7 operations.
The Security Supervisor ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for staff, clients, visitors, and property by implementing effective security practices, maintaining appropriate staffing levels, supervising personnel, and responding to security-related incidents. The Supervisor serves as a leader and role model by promoting professionalism, accountability, and exceptional customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of ten (10) or more Security Officers assigned across the River Edge footprint.
- Provide daily direction, coaching, and leadership to ensure high-quality security services.
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend promotions, disciplinary actions, and corrective measures.
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, discipline, and terminate security personnel in accordance with River Edge policies and applicable employment laws.
- Ensure staff maintain required certifications, licenses, and mandatory training.
Scheduling & Staffing
- Develop, implement, and maintain the master security schedule for all River Edge locations.
- Ensure continuous security coverage for all facilities, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and all 24/7 operations.
- Coordinate shift assignments, overtime, on-call coverage, and emergency staffing to maintain uninterrupted operations.
- Monitor attendance and approve leave requests while maintaining adequate staffing levels.
Safety & Security Operations
- Oversee daily security operations throughout the entire River Edge footprint.
- Conduct routine inspections and patrols of facilities to identify and mitigate safety and security risks.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Respond to emergencies including behavioral health crises, disturbances, fire alarms, medical emergencies, and security incidents.
- Coordinate security responses with law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, and other emergency responders when necessary.
- Investigate incidents involving staff, clients, visitors, or property and prepare detailed reports.
- Review security reports, surveillance footage, and incident documentation to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
Client and Staff Safety
- Foster a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment for clients receiving behavioral health services.
- Support crisis intervention efforts while utilizing de-escalation techniques whenever possible.
- Ensure the protection of employees, visitors, contractors, and agency assets.
- Promote compliance with workplace violence prevention and emergency preparedness initiatives.
Client Transportation and Escorts
- Occasionally transport or escort clients to medical appointments, hospitals, court proceedings, treatment facilities, or other approved destinations as operational needs require.
- Ensure all transports are conducted safely, professionally, and in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Assist with protective escorts for staff, visitors, or clients when necessary.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, staffing, investigations, inspections, and training.
- Assist in developing and updating security policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for leadership regarding security operations and staffing needs.
- Participate in organizational committees and safety initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in security, law enforcement, military, or public safety.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience working in healthcare, behavioral health, hospital, or human services environments preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and team-building skills.
- Thorough knowledge of security operations, emergency response, and crisis management.
- Ability to effectively supervise personnel working multiple shifts across multiple facilities.
- Knowledge of behavioral health environments and trauma-informed approaches preferred.
- Excellent conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare professional reports and maintain confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic scheduling systems.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment during emergencies and high-pressure situations.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or (ability to obtain within required timeframe).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, and patrol facilities for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely restrain or assist during behavioral emergencies using approved techniques.
- Ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, and respond rapidly during emergencies.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
The Security Supervisor works in administrative offices, outpatient clinics, crisis stabilization units, residential treatment facilities, and other River Edge locations. The position requires occasional evening, overnight, weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities to ensure continuous security operations.
