1. Position Overview
The Cigar Lounge Attendant is the face of The Royal Leaf during their shift. This role is about creating a welcoming, knowledgeable, and comfortable experience for every guest who walks through the door — from regulars who know exactly what they want to newcomers just discovering the world of premium cigars. You don't need to be a cigar expert on day one; we'll train you. What we do need is someone with genuine warmth, attention to detail, and the ability to hold the room with confidence.
2. Core Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome all guests; establish rapport and create a comfortable lounge environment
- Assist guests with cigar selection, providing guidance on flavor profiles, strength, and pairings
- Maintain the humidor — restocking, monitoring humidity/temperature, and keeping inventory organized
- Handle point-of-sale transactions accurately; process memberships and retail purchases
- Prepare and serve complimentary beverages (coffee, water, non-alcoholic offerings) as applicable
- Maintain cleanliness of the lounge floor, seating areas, ashtrays, and common spaces throughout the shift
- Support and enforce lounge policies including membership tiers, guest conduct, and smoke etiquette
- Open and/or close the lounge according to established SOPs
- Communicate low-stock, maintenance needs, or guest concerns to the Lounge Manager promptly
- Support Cigars 101 sessions and special events as needed
- Handle light social media content capture (photos, stories) when directed by management
3. Qualifications
Required:
- Genuine people skills — you enjoy conversation and make guests feel at ease
- Experience in hospitality, retail, or customer-facing service roles
- Ability to work independently and maintain professionalism without constant supervision
- Comfortable working in a cigar smoke environment (non-negotiable)
- Basic cash handling and POS experience
- Reliable, punctual, and communicative
Preferred (not required — will train):
- Prior knowledge of premium cigars, tobacco, or related lifestyle products
- Familiarity with cocktail basics, wine, or whiskey — a plus for guest pairing conversations
4. Working Environment
The Royal Leaf is an intimate, upscale cigar lounge in the heart of Chinatown Honolulu. The environment is relaxed but curated — think good music, good smoke, and good conversation. Staff are expected to represent the brand with composure and care. This role requires standing for extended periods and comfort in a smoke-filled indoor space.
5. Membership & Loyalty Programs
Staff are expected to be familiar with The Royal Leaf's membership tiers (Bronze, Gold, Platinum, Corporate) and the corresponding benefits, pricing, and locker/keycard structure. Full onboarding documentation provided during training.
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
