Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Registered Nurse - Unit Manager to lead and oversee nursing operations within a specialized care unit. Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise nursing staff, including scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Oversee patient assessments, ensuring accurate documentation of vital signs, medical history, and current health status using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary team efforts for comprehensive care planning, discharge planning, and case management.
- Ensure compliance with state healthcare regulations, HIPAA privacy standards, and long-term care regulations while maintaining accurate medical records and documentation.
- Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, catheterizations, and manage airway or ventilator needs following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Conduct physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations, and monitor patients’ physiological responses during critical & intensive care situations including ICU or Level I Trauma Center scenarios.
- Implement infection control procedures and maintain sterile processing standards to uphold the highest safety standards.
- Manage utilization review processes such as DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems for medical documentation accuracy.
- Support team management by supervising nursing assistants and other healthcare professionals in assisted living, geriatrics, behavioral health, or pediatric settings including neonatal or toddler care.
Skills
- Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for documentation and patient management.
- Proven leadership in nurse management roles with supervising experience in diverse healthcare environments including hospitals (Level I & II Trauma Centers), nursing homes, or acute care units.
- Strong clinical skills in critical care areas such as ICU or emergency medicine; familiarity with ventilator management and airway procedures.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, CPT/ICD coding for accurate medical records and billing processes.
- Expertise in medication administration including injections, IV insertion/infusion therapy, catheterization, suturing, phlebotomy and sterile techniques.
- Ability to assess complex patient needs through physical examinations and diagnostic evaluation; adept at triage in fast-paced settings.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA laws, long-term care regulations, NCQA standards for quality assurance and discharge planning protocols.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while providing excellent patient care across geriatrics, pediatrics (including neonatal ventilator management), or behavioral health populations.
- Management experience involving staffing coordination, managing care facility teams or supervising nursing staff within medical-surgical units or home care settings.
