Senior System EngineerNew York, NY (On-site)
AppCard is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with strong expertise in Linux systems, infrastructure automation, and TCP/IP–based network troubleshooting, supporting production environments and customer-facing POS integrations.
This is a hands-on operational role responsible for system reliability, automation, and advanced incident resolution across Linux infrastructure, POS networks, and data pipelines. The role works closely with Engineering, Product, Customer Success, and Support to ensure platform stability and an excellent customer experience.
Responsibilities:
Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux-based production and customer-facing systems supporting POS integrations
Design, implement, and maintain Ansible-based automation for configuration management, deployments, and system consistency
Diagnose and resolve TCP/IP protocol–level issues, including routing, connectivity, latency, packet loss, and network performance problems
Troubleshoot POS environments, including store networks, on-prem systems, and data transmission between POS, edge devices, and cloud services
Act as an escalation point for complex or recurring incidents, performing root-cause analysis and driving long-term remediation
Perform database troubleshooting, including SQL querying, data validation, and basic performance analysis
Collaborate with Engineering on incidents involving infrastructure, configuration, or application-level defects
Use monitoring and observability tools to identify, analyze, and resolve system and performance issues
Document system architecture, operational procedures, runbooks, and customer-facing technical guidance
Build and maintain internal and external technical knowledge bases
Manage multiple concurrent issues while providing clear, timely communication to customers and internal stakeholders
Participate in off-hours and weekend on-call rotations for mission-critical systems
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Strong hands-on experience with Linux system administration in production environments
Proven experience with Ansible for automation and configuration management
Solid understanding of the TCP/IP protocol stack and hands-on troubleshooting at the protocol level
Experience supporting or integrating with POS systems or retail technology environments
Working knowledge of databases, including SQL querying and troubleshooting
Familiarity with system monitoring, logging, and alerting tools
3+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Technical Operations, or advanced Technical Support roles
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer-first mindset
Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Nice to have:
Experience using Grafana for monitoring, dashboards, and operational visibility
Experience working with Salesforce, particularly in support, case management, or operational workflows
Exposure to IoT, edge devices, or distributed retail environments
Scripting experience (Bash, Python)

Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000
