School Bus Prep & PDI ManagerPosition Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented School Bus Prep & PDI Manager to lead our pre-delivery inspection team. This is a hands-on supervisory role responsible for preparing new school buses for delivery and for directing, training, and holding a small team to the quality standards that protect our delivery reputation. The Manager ensures every vehicle meets all safety, quality, and operational standards before it is placed into service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Quality
- Supervise and coordinate the daily work of the prep/PDI team (3 technicians), assigning work and managing workflow to keep deliveries on schedule.
- Train and develop technicians on PDI procedures, quality standards, and proper documentation.
- Review completed work for quality and consistency; perform the final quality check on each unit before delivery.
- Establish and uphold consistent PDI standards and documentation across the team.
Inspection & Preparation
- Perform pre-delivery inspections (PDI) on new school buses.
- Conduct thorough safety and operational inspections of vehicle systems, including brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, lighting, and fluid systems.
- Install and verify operation of customer-specified equipment and accessories.
- Identify, diagnose, and report defects, deficiencies, or warranty concerns.
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments as needed to prepare vehicles for delivery.
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable safety regulations.
- Complete inspection reports, service records, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area; properly care for tools and equipment.
- Assist with vehicle inventory movement, lot organization, and other shop duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior supervisory, lead, or team-training experience strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in vehicle maintenance, diesel repair, fleet maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of school buses, commercial vehicles, or heavy-duty truck systems is a plus.
- Some knowledge of DOT inspections and preventive maintenance (PM) services preferred.
- Ability to use diagnostic and shop equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to lead a team and work effectively across the shop.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools.
