American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mixed Acuity ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring at least 1 year of ICU experience and proficiency with titratable drips and hemodynamic monitoring.

12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 36 hours per week

18-bed mixed acuity unit serving both intermediate care and non-vented ICU-level patients
-
Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural patients (post-TNK, neuro IR procedures, hemorrhages/aneurysms, burr holes, VP shunt placements, craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, EVDs, continuous EEG, neuro/spine surgery) as well as respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, acute neurological diagnoses, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities

Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 based on acuity; CNA support at 1:12

RNs are required to independently read and measure telemetry strips

Floating may occur to like units (MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU task, MS-to-ER holds; ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task with a limit of 3, or ICU-to-ER holds)

Every other weekend rotation required; back-to-back weekends possible but rare

No on-call responsibilities

Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Spacelabs & Resparray monitors, bedside monitors, and bladder scanner

Active AL RN license or compact RN license required (may submit pending with ETA)

Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers considered with 2 years of ICU experience

Proficiency with BiPAP/CPAP management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, CVP monitoring, hemodynamic line monitoring, post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes

Experience titrating drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine

Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible

Located at a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with a Level III NICU in Montgomery, AL
-
Department support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, dedicated educator and nurse mentor, RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)

New-to-facility travelers and those who have been away for 1+ year will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of on-unit orientation

One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage required per policy; specific dates are not contractually guaranteed off prior to arrival

Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, excluding facility blackout dates

Schedule is managed on a 6-week cycle

No scrub color restrictions; free parking available on campus and in a parking deck

The unit is in an intentional culture-building phase with a shared commitment to improvement, accountability, and staff voice

Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler

Documents required for consideration include: full SSN on coversheet, 1 reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months, copy of certifications, and DOB (day and month)
