Responsibilities
- Safely operate roll-off trucks equipped with front loader, rear loader, dump truck, or tractor-trailer configurations to load, transport, and unload waste materials.
- Load and unload containers using front-end loaders or flatbed trucks, ensuring secure handling of various waste types including municipal and hazardous materials within regulatory guidelines.
- Follow established routes for route driving, adhering strictly to traffic laws, DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, and state transportation laws to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after shifts, checking air brake systems, mechanical components, manual transmissions, and other safety features to maintain optimal vehicle performance.
- Maintain accurate logs of deliveries, pickups, mileage, and fuel consumption in compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating professionally with clients during pickups and drop-offs while addressing any concerns or special instructions.
- Perform heavy lifting when handling containers or equipment and operate various heavy-duty trucks such as garbage trucks, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, front loaders, rear loaders, and tractor-trailers.
Requirements
- Valid Class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement preferred; must meet all DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on municipal waste management or solid waste collection.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, safety protocols, hazardous materials regulations, and DOT regulations governing commercial vehicles.
- Mechanical aptitude for performing basic maintenance checks on heavy-duty trucks and understanding vehicle systems.
- Experience operating front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds, or tractor-trailers is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform manual lifting of heavy containers or equipment safely while adhering to safety standards.
- Outdoor work experience preferred; comfortable working in varying weather conditions over extended periods.
- Strong commitment to safety protocol adherence with a focus on hazard awareness during route driving and material handling.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting professionally with customers and team members.
