Duties
- Dispense medications accurately while adhering to hospital protocols and ensuring proper medication administration.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine appropriate pharmacotherapy plans, including IV infusion and aseptic techniques.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers to optimize medication therapy, especially in complex cases like trauma, pediatrics, and critical care.
- Manage medication inventories efficiently, including controlled substances and specialty drugs for ICU, PICU, and emergency room settings.
- Provide expert consultation on physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and pharmacology to support clinical decision-making.
- Educate patients and staff on medication use, potential side effects, pain management strategies, and safety precautions.
- Participate in hospital committees focused on pharmacy practice standards, medication safety initiatives, and managed care programs.
Qualifications
- Valid pharmacist license with current registration in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Extensive hospital experience with a focus on ICU or Level I Trauma Center environments preferred.
- Demonstrated clinical pharmacy experience in acute care settings such as emergency rooms or critical care units.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and aseptic techniques essential for high-quality patient care.
- Proven ability to manage complex medication regimens including IV infusions and pain management protocols.
- Experience with managed care systems and post-residency training in pharmacy practice is highly desirable.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to patient assessment and education.
