The Camera Technician is responsible for ensuring that all video capture devices managed by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office remain available and fully functional. This role requires strong technical skills and a solid understanding of computer systems, including the ability to learn, monitor, and audit software programs and third-party applications. The technician must be able to travel to various locations to resolve technology issues involving video capture devices. The position involves regular interaction with internal personnel and external stakeholders, requiring excellent interpersonal skills. The technician will also perform a range of technical and administrative duties as assigned by the Intelligence Unit Manager.
- Level I:
- Education – High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience – Two (2) years’ experience in an Information Technology (IT), Surveillance, Camera/Video Systems, or other related field
- Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required competencies to perform the job.
- Valid Driver License
- Level II:
- Education - Associate’s degree in related field
- Experience – Three (3) years’ experience in an Information Technology (IT), Surveillance, Camera/Video Systems, or other related field
- Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required competencies to perform the job.
- Familiarity with law enforcement operations, surveillance/security, or Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)

- Work collaboratively with the IT Department to support the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of video technology system equipment.
- Ensure all cameras within existing video systems are online, operational, and promptly serviced when issues arise.
- Install and maintain video surveillance equipment, including IP CCTV cameras and surveillance-specific network storage systems.
- Collect, preserve, review, and retrieve video data to support crime prevention efforts, security investigations, and employee-related incidents.
- Monitor and audit software systems for compliance; verify user training; maintain training and audit logs; and report misuse or anomalies to the supervisor.
- Install and run low-voltage wiring; mount, install, and terminate cameras, DVRs, NVRs, and other CCTV devices in commercial environments.
- Coordinate with internal technology departments, external vendors, and regulators to ensure effective communication and compatibility between video management systems and network resources.
- Consult with other governmental entities and agencies regarding the prioritization, procurement, installation, and use of fixed and mobile surveillance systems and related technologies.
- Manage surveillance system projects through all phases, including procurement, site visits, scheduling, vendor coordination, and system integration.
- Regular and prompt job attendance.

- Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting video surveillance equipment, including IP CCTV cameras, DVRs, NVRs, and network storage.
- Ability to run, install, and terminate low-voltage cabling and related CCTV components.
- Skill in monitoring and auditing software systems for compliance and proper system use.
- Ability to collect, preserve, and retrieve video data for investigative or administrative purposes.
- Ability to work effectively with IT personnel, technology vendors, and regulatory partners.
- Skill in coordinating complex surveillance system projects across multiple phases and technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of video management systems, networking principles, and related technologies.

- Requires sufficient manual dexterity to operate tools, cabling, and electronic components.
- Must be able to work in various indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in confined spaces or elevated locations.
- Ability to travel to multiple worksites and navigate uneven terrain or facility layouts as needed.
- Visual acuity and hearing sufficient to monitor equipment, identify system issues, and ensure safe performance of duties.
