HVAC Manager
Confidential Employer | Pittsburgh, PA
Full-Time | Residential HVAC
A well-established and growing residential home services company in the Pittsburgh area is seeking an experienced HVAC Manager to lead its HVAC service, installation, and sales operations.
This is a confidential search for a key leadership position.
We are looking for more than an experienced HVAC technician who is ready to move into management. We need a proven leader who understands how to manage people, drive performance, develop technicians, and take ownership of an HVAC department.
The company is investing significantly in technology, fleet, training, marketing, operational systems, and growth. The right person will have the resources and authority to build a high-performing HVAC operation.
What You'll Do
The HVAC Manager will have responsibility for the overall performance of the department, including:
- Lead, coach, and develop HVAC service technicians, installers, helpers, and sales personnel
- Manage daily field operations, scheduling effectiveness, and technician utilization
- Monitor revenue, gross margin, average ticket, conversion, billable efficiency, callbacks, memberships, and other key performance indicators
- Conduct regular technician performance reviews and coaching
- Work closely with dispatch to maximize field capacity
- Ensure technicians consistently provide customers with appropriate repair and replacement options
- Manage unsold estimate follow-up and identify additional sales opportunities
- Support replacement sales and installation operations
- Improve membership participation and customer retention
- Monitor installation and service quality and reduce callbacks
- Ensure compliance with company SOPs, pricing policies, documentation requirements, and safety standards
- Use reporting and operational data to identify performance issues and implement corrective action
- Recruit, onboard, train, and develop HVAC employees
- Assist with department budgeting, staffing plans, revenue goals, and growth strategy
- Work collaboratively with operations, dispatch, inventory, marketing, and executive leadership
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has a strong residential HVAC background combined with demonstrated leadership ability.
Qualifications include:
- Residential HVAC experience
- HVAC management, service management, field supervision, or comparable leadership experience
- Strong understanding of HVAC service, maintenance, installation, and replacement
- Experience coaching technicians and improving field performance
- Understanding of residential HVAC sales and the ability to coach teams on presenting customer solutions
- Experience managing KPIs and using data to improve performance
- Ability to hold employees accountable while building a strong team culture
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with field service management software; ServiceTitan experience is strongly preferred
- Valid driver's license
What Success Looks Like
The successful HVAC Manager will understand what is happening in the department before the monthly financial statements arrive.
You should know whether technicians are productive, whether customers are receiving appropriate options, whether unsold estimates are being followed up on, why opportunities are being lost, where callbacks are occurring, and which employees need additional coaching.
When a KPI is not where it needs to be, we expect our HVAC Manager to do more than report the problem. We expect them to develop a plan, communicate it, execute it, and measure whether it worked.
What We Offer
- Competitive management-level compensation
- Performance-based incentive opportunity
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Paid time off
- Retirement plan with company contribution
- Company-provided technology
- Vehicle or vehicle allowance based on final role structure
- Ongoing professional and technical development
- Significant opportunity to influence the direction and growth of the HVAC department
- Established organization with substantial investment underway in people, technology, fleet, marketing, and operations
Who Will Thrive Here
We are looking for someone who likes building.
You don't need to walk in believing everything is already perfect. In fact, that's part of the opportunity.
You need to be willing to get into the operation, understand the numbers, spend time with the technicians, coach your team, address problems directly, establish expectations, and follow through.
If you're an experienced HVAC leader looking for an opportunity where you can have a measurable impact on a growing organization, we'd like to hear from you.
All applications and inquiries will be handled confidentially.
