The Outcome Owner Team Lead is a first-level leadership role that combines people leadership with hands-on product backlog management to drive delivery within a small, focused pod. This role serves as a player/coach leading a pod of 5–7 IT professionals, owning both the team's day-to-day execution and the product backlog within a sprint or kanban delivery model. The Team Lead Outcome Owner operates within a defined product domain, translating priorities set by the Product Manager and vertical leadership into sprint-level work and ensuring the team delivers against committed objectives. This role focuses on delivery execution, team coaching, and backlog management — building the foundational skills in outcome-based delivery and AI-augmented workflows that prepare the individual for progression to the Manager level. The ideal candidate has a solid technical background, emerging people leadership skills, and the ability to manage a product backlog while keeping a small team productive, engaged, and aligned to delivery commitments.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coach the outcome team: Manage a pod of 5–7 IT professionals day-to-day, setting clear sprint goals, providing regular feedback, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the pod.
- Manage the outcome team, including onboarding, performance feedback, coaching, and career development conversations. Provide input on hiring and compensation decisions in partnership with the vertical Sr. Manager.
- Manage the product backlog: Maintain a prioritized backlog within the product domain, writing user stories, defining acceptance criteria, and ensure the team has groomed, ready work for each sprint or kanban cycle. Operate within priorities set by the Product Manager and vertical leadership.
- Drive delivery execution: Ensure the team meets sprint commitments and delivers quality work on time. Track delivery metrics (velocity, cycle time, defect rates) and use data to identify improvement opportunities within the pod.
- Leverage AI tools in delivery: Incorporate AI coding assistants and automation tools into the team's daily workflow, following patterns and guardrails established by Platform Enablement. Encourage team adoption of AI-augmented delivery practices.
- Execute against the Product Manager's roadmap priorities, providing input on feasibility and capacity constraints. Flag risks and trade-offs to vertical leadership when delivery commitments are at risk.
- Consume platform services from Platform Enablement, including AI frameworks, architectural patterns, and lifecycle automation tooling. Ensure the pod adheres to established standards and patterns.
- Communicate delivery progress, risks, and blockers to vertical leadership and day-to-day business stakeholders. Serve as the primary operational point of contact for the pod's delivery status.
- Escalate and remove impediments: Proactively identify blockers within the pod and escalate cross-team or cross-functional issues to vertical leadership or the Sr. PM for resolution.
- Facilitate team ceremonies: Run sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Drive adoption of process improvements identified through retrospectives.
- Manage the team's workload and capacity, balancing feature delivery, technical debt, and defect resolution to maintain sustainable throughput.
- Hold the team accountable for meeting delivery commitments while adhering to quality, security, and architectural standards established by Platform Enablement and the Enterprise Architect.
