About the Role
We are seeking a high-caliber, seasoned Marine Service Manager to take immediate operational ownership of our service department and bustling boatyard/dealership in Deltaville, VA. This is a critical leadership role for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses the grit, technical depth, and strategic mindset required to maximize service revenue and optimize yard resources daily.
Because we are both a busy service yard and a premier boat dealership, the ideal candidate must be a master of resource allocation. You will need to expertly balance the competing demands of retail service clients with the crucial, fast-moving needs of our sales department (commissioning new inventory, prepping trades, and handling warranty work).
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Resource Allocation: Dynamically prioritize yard resources and technician schedules to balance retail customer service work with dealership sales demands (new boat commissioning, trade-in prep, and survey repairs).
- Operational Ownership & Leadership: Drive the daily scheduling, assignment, and execution of all service work, ensuring maximum labor efficiency and resource utilization across the yard.
- Revenue & Margin Optimization: Actively manage job costing, quoting, and work-order accuracy to hit service revenue targets. Ensure internal sales work is completed efficiently to protect dealership margins.
- Technician Management: Lead, mentor, and hold accountable a team of marine technicians (mechanics, painter, and yard labor). Manage labor hours and foster a culture of quality, safety, and pride in workmanship.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with the Sales Team to ensure seamless, on-time boat deliveries, fostering an elite "delivery day" experience for our buyers.
- Quality Control & Safety: Implement and maintain rigorous quality control standards to minimize rework on both retail and sales jobs. Ensure the yard strictly adheres to OSHA and environmental marine regulations.
Position Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience working in a busy boatyard environment is strictly required. Experience working within a combined dealership/service model is highly preferred.
- Leadership: At least 3–5 years in a direct supervisory or management role within the marine industry, with a proven ability to lead a diverse team of technicians.
- Master of Priorities: Exceptional organizational skills with a proven track record of managing competing priorities from sales and service departments without breaking a sweat.
- Technical Acumen: Deep, functional knowledge of marine systems (diesel/gas engines, outboard power, electrical, plumbing, composites, and rigging) to effectively estimate and verify work.
- Business Savvy: Proficiency with marine service management software, work-order systems, and project budgeting. Strong negotiation and clear, professional customer communication skills are non-negotiable.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with your deep industry experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package (Health, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, Retirement options).
- A stable, reputable dealership and yard with a loyal customer base and the resources you need to succeed.
