Position Summary
Mountain West Industrial (MWI) is seeking skilled Orbital Welders to support construction and installation activities at the TSMC semiconductor manufacturing campus in Phoenix, Arizona. This position is responsible for performing high-purity orbital welding on stainless steel process piping systems used in semiconductor manufacturing while maintaining the highest standards of quality, cleanliness, and safety.
The ideal candidate has experience working in cleanroom environments, understands semiconductor industry quality requirements, and is proficient in orbital welding techniques that meet high-purity specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform orbital welding on stainless steel tubing and piping systems used in high-purity process applications.
- Set up, operate, and maintain orbital welding equipment in accordance with project specifications.
- Produce high-quality welds that meet semiconductor industry standards for purity and consistency.
- Prepare tubing by cutting, facing, cleaning, and fitting prior to welding.
- Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, spool drawings, and fabrication documents.
- Inspect weld joints for quality and verify compliance with project specifications.
- Complete weld documentation, traceability records, and quality control paperwork as required.
- Follow cleanroom protocols, contamination control procedures, and gowning requirements while working in controlled environments.
- Coordinate with quality control personnel, supervisors, and project management to ensure timely completion of work.
- Maintain tools and welding equipment in safe operating condition.
- Follow all OSHA regulations, MWI safety policies, and TSMC Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) requirements.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area while supporting project schedules.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of orbital welding experience on stainless steel tubing or process piping.
- Experience working on semiconductor, pharmaceutical, biotech, food processing, or other high-purity piping systems.
- Previous experience working in cleanroom environments.
- Ability to consistently produce high-quality orbital welds with minimal defects.
- Experience reading isometric drawings and fabrication prints.
- Strong understanding of weld preparation, fit-up, and tube handling procedures.
- Knowledge of contamination control and material handling requirements for high-purity systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work overtime as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting TSMC or other semiconductor fabrication projects.
- Experience welding high-purity stainless steel tubing for Ultra High Purity (UHP) gas or chemical systems.
- Current orbital welding qualifications or certifications.
- GTAW/TIG welding experience.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction certification.
- Experience working with Swagelok®, VCR®, and sanitary tubing systems.
- Basic knowledge of borescope inspections and weld quality acceptance standards.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work in active construction and cleanroom environments.
- Wear required PPE, including cleanroom garments, respirators (when required), gloves, eye protection, hard hats, and steel-toe boots.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and alternate shifts based on project demands.
