REPORTING STRUCTURE: The Library Media Specialist reports to the Building Principal.QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet all licensure and highly qualified requirements as set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: The Library Media Specialist shall be evaluated annually, consistent with the evaluation procedure included in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Education Association of Leicester and the District.REPRESENTATION STATUS: Education Association of Leicester (EAL)JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Create and maintain an inviting, safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment that fosters intellectual inquiry.Provide leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources.Encourage the use of the instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning.Prepare students with information and technology skills necessary to access and evaluate materials and resources to meet their educational, personal, and recreational needs.Empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.Teach students to follow an inquiry process as they ask questions, evaluate, and collect information from multiple sources to construct understanding by thinking critically.Collaborate with classroom teachers as a partner in the instructional process.Provide technical assistance and resources required to support the curriculum and staff. Make recommendations to administration pertaining to new, revised, or changes in content or delivery systems of the library/media curriculum.Establish procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, and sharing of resources in all formats.Take a leadership role in organizing and promoting literacy events that engages learners and motivates them to become lifelong learners.Evaluate, promote, and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.Promote the ethical use of information, copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property.Assist administration in developing instructional budgets including instructional materials and provisions for teaching and learning programs.Serves as liaison with the staff of the public library to develop cooperative programs. Conduct other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent, including attending school committee meetings and subcommittee meetings as requested or required by the Superintendent; and, any other executive staff function required by the Superintendent.
