Job Summary
The Beverly Arts Center, located at 2407 W 111th Street on the Southside of Chicago, is searching for a Teaching Artist to work for its Partnerships department, whose mission is to offer tailored Arts-enrichment programming public and private schools throughout the city and surrounding suburbs before-school, in-school and after-school. The Partnerships department and its ensemble of professional Teaching Artists also serve home school groups, community organizations, libraries, churches, and more, offering programming in all artistic disciplines in addition to coordinating field trips and special events at the Beverly Arts Center.
Partnerships is seeking a Teaching Artist for the 2026-27 school year in the following disciplines:
Responsibilities include:
- Planning curriculum and lesson plans for a twice per week hour-long 6th-8th grade band class at a CPS Elementary school for the entire school year.
- Teaching students ages 6th-8th grade how to assemble, play and care for their musical instruments, how to read music, musicianship and more.
- Documenting the creation process and any finished student work or culminating events
- Working within BAC, Chicago Public Schools, and other outside partner policies and procedures
- Strong work ethic including timeliness and quality preparation
- Submitting to fingerprinting and background check
Requirements include:
- A Bachelor's or advanced degree in Music, Music Education or Performance is preferred; compensation is commensurate with education level and teaching experience. The pay is $50 per hour.
- All candidates will be considered primarily on the basis of reliability, accountability, and integrity combined with a passion for bringing the arts to classrooms in need of enriching artistic programs.
- Teaching Artists are strongly motivated independent contractors who demonstrate tangible classroom management skills and an ability to properly address behavior issues among students.
- Transparent availability, scheduling flexibility, and STRONG communication skills are required assets for this position.
