Position Summary
Operates the two-component structural sealant pump system (Graco) to apply structural silicone for structurally glazing curtainwall and window units. Responsible for producing sound, code-compliant structural seals that meet Dow’s quality program requirements and project specifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up, prime, and operate the Graco two-part meter/mix/dispense pump; verify mix ratio and dispense rate before each production run.
- Apply structural silicone to specified joint dimensions, tooling joints smooth and continuous with no voids or air pockets.
- Apply weather seals to units per detail drawings and project specifications.
- Perform and log required in-process quality checks: catalyst ratio verification, snap time, and butterfly (adhesion) tests, and daily start-up sealant checks per the Dow Record Book.
- Prep and clean substrates (glass, metal) using approved solvents and primers per Dow deglaze / cleaning requirements before sealing.
- Verify correct units, glass type, and setting blocks / spacers against the glass release schedule prior to sealing.
- Maintain accurate production and QC documentation, including lot numbers, cure logs, and unit counts.
- Clean, maintain, and properly shut down the pump system; report equipment or ratio issues to the lead promptly.
- Follow all PPE, ventilation, and safe chemical-handling practices for silicone, catalyst, and solvents.
Qualifications
- Prior structural glazing or two-part sealant application experience preferred; will train the right candidate.
- Ability to read fabrication / shop drawings and follow written seal specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and consistent, well-documented workmanship.
- Comfortable with basic recordkeeping and in-process testing.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and maneuver glass and units (with team assistance / equipment) and stand for extended shifts.
- Manual dexterity for tooling joints and operating dispensing equipment.
