Job Title: Cable Manufacturing Technician
Job Summary:
The Cable & Wire Harness Technician is responsible for assembling, installing, testing, and repairing electrical cables and wire harnesses used in various equipment and systems. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams, and adherence to quality and safety standards. The technician works with hand tools, specialized equipment, and testing devices to ensure cable assemblies meet design specifications and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble cable and wire harness assemblies according to engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Cut, strip, crimp, solder, and terminate wires and cables using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Install connectors, terminals, heat shrink, labels, and protective coverings.
- Route and bundle wires to create organized harnesses that meet design and quality requirements.
- Perform electrical continuity testing and basic troubleshooting to verify functionality.
- Inspect finished assemblies for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
- Maintain proper documentation for work performed, including inspection and testing records.
- Follow safety procedures and company quality standards during all assembly processes.
- Assist with rework, repairs, or modifications to existing cable assemblies when required.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Experience assembling cable or wire harnesses in a manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, automotive, or similar environment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and assembly drawings.
- Knowledge of wire types, connectors, crimping methods, and soldering techniques.
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Ability to use basic electrical testing equipment such as multimeters and continuity testers.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and production tracking.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or similar cable and wire harness assembly certification.
- Experience with quality standards in regulated industries (aerospace, defense, medical, etc.).
- Familiarity with cable routing, shielding, and labeling standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to use small hand tools and perform repetitive assembly tasks.
- Good vision and hand-eye coordination for detailed work.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing, production, or laboratory environment.
- Work may involve handling small components and working at assembly workstations.
