We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmology Billing Specialist to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Review medical records and documentation to ensure accurate coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications for ophthalmology procedures and diagnoses.
- Assign appropriate ICD coding and CPT codes for procedures, treatments, and diagnoses in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Submit clean claims electronically through billing software and EMR/EHR (Electronic Medical Records/Electronic Health Records) systems, ensuring adherence to insurance requirements.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by investigating issues related to healthcare claims management, resubmitting corrected claims as necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, medical collections, and correspondence related to insurance companies and patients.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding billing inquiries, payment plans, or insurance coverage details with a focus on customer service excellence.
- Stay updated on healthcare regulations, insurance policies, and coding changes affecting ophthalmology billing practices.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing within a healthcare setting, preferably in ophthalmology or specialized medical fields.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and medical coding including ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, and DRG classifications.
- Familiarity with billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Understanding of health insurance processes, healthcare claims management, and medical collections procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to analyze complex medical documentation accurately.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, providers, insurance companies, and team members.
- Knowledge of medical office procedures and experience working with healthcare claims is highly desirable.
