Overview
We are seeking an experienced security consultant to assess and help strengthen the physical security of a private multi-building property, the high-value assets and equipment kept on it, and the personal safety of the household and on-site staff. The focus is a professional, on-site security assessment with prioritized, practical recommendations. The written assessment and its recommendations are the core deliverable. Discretion, sound judgment, and a calm, measured approach are essential.
Ideal Background
We are looking for a consultant with genuine, hands-on experience conducting physical security assessments. Relevant experience may include:
- Physical security assessments of residential, estate, commercial, or rural properties
- Protection of high-value assets, equipment, and inventory
- Threat and vulnerability assessment across sites with multiple structures and access points
- Law enforcement
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PSP) and appropriate state licensing and insurance are a plus
Property & Household Assessment
The consultant will evaluate the property and household and provide prioritized, actionable recommendations. Areas to assess include:
- Camera placement — eliminating blind spots and capturing vehicle license plates and clear images of people approaching the home.
- Perimeter security — gates, fencing, and all entry points.
- Lighting — especially motion-activated lighting around buildings and driveways.
- Alarm systems — including solutions that alert the household even when no one is on the property.
- Safe rooms or protected areas — a secure place inside the home to shelter while waiting for law enforcement, if ever needed.
- Driveway and access control — particularly important on rural properties with long or open approaches.
- Landscaping — changes that improve sightlines and visibility while maintaining privacy.
- Household procedures — clear protocols for family members, visitors, and workers.
Large Property & Asset Protection
Across the broader property and its outbuildings, the consultant should assess and recommend measures such as:
- Site perimeter & zoning — securing extended boundaries, multiple structures, and separating public, staff, and restricted areas.
- Building & equipment security — access control at doors, locks, windows, and loading areas, and monitoring of high-value equipment and inventory.
- Surveillance coverage — camera and sensor placement, with reliable recording, remote monitoring, and off-site backup.
- Vulnerability of stored assets — single points of failure, high-theft targets, and gaps in how valuable equipment is stored, transported, and handled on site.
- Staff & visitor procedures — vetting, access levels, and protocols for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Deliverables
- A written security assessment covering the property, its structures, and high-value assets, with clearly prioritized recommendations.
- Practical, vendor-neutral guidance the household and any on-site staff can act on.
- An asset-protection and loss-prevention plan for valuable equipment and inventory.
Preferred / Additional Scope
The following are valued but not required, and may be provided directly or through a named subcontractor:
- Background and digital footprint review — assessing what information about the household and business is publicly discoverable online and how to reduce that exposure.
- Guidance on safe documentation and escalation where a hostile or persistent party is involved.
Confidentiality
This engagement involves access to sensitive information about the property, its occupants, assets, and business operations. The selected consultant must sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before any assessment work begins, and is expected to keep all information, findings, and recommendations strictly confidential during and after the engagement.
Key Qualities
- Discretion with sensitive personal, family, and business matters.
- A risk-reduction mindset that avoids escalating an already tense situation.
- Strong communication skills and plain-language recommendations.
- Independence from equipment sales, so advice is based on need rather than commission.
