Coating Technician
Position Summary
The Coating Technician is responsible for supporting the coating process by ensuring products meet customer specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. This position plays a key role in surface preparation, coating application support, inspection, and quality verification while maintaining efficient production operations. Individuals with demonstrated leadership potential will have opportunities to develop into future lead roles by mentoring team members, promoting safety, and driving continuous improvement.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform coating production activities in accordance with company procedures and customer specifications.
- Inspect coated products for quality, appearance, and compliance with established standards.
- Identify defects and communicate issues to supervision to ensure timely corrective action.
- Read and interpret manufacturing drawings, work instructions, and product specifications.
- Complete production and quality documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Work collaboratively with production, quality, and maintenance teams to meet production goals.
- Assist in troubleshooting coating and production issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support root cause analysis efforts.
- Train and mentor new employees as assigned.
- Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; technical or trade school education is a plus.
- Experience in heavy steel manufacturing, pipe manufacturing, or the oil and gas industry.
- Experience in coating, inspection, quality assurance, or industrial production environments.
- Knowledge of industrial coatings, surface preparation, and inspection processes.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Basic computer skills and experience using production or quality management systems.
- Experience with coating inspection standards such as CSA, NACE/AMPP, or SSPC is preferred but not required.
