Production Associate
Department: Production Reports To: Direct Reports: Job Type: (Full-Time / Part-Time) Job Status: (Non-Exempt / Hourly)
Position Summary / Overview
Works under the direction of the Production Management team in carrying out all Production operations in the store, including, but not limited to, accepting, sorting and pricing donated items, employee interactions, as outlined in the essential functions of the job and in compliance with company policies, procedures and mission statement.
Key Responsibilities / Essential FunctionsOperations
- Ability to produce quick and accurate work in a face-paced environment, successfully staying above company average of pieces produced per hour.
- Understand and comply with policies and procedures related to donated items, including prohibited items and pricing guides.
- Effectively use the donation receiving script to communicate appreciation, the SMCo Story, the mission you represent, and Corner of Your Field to donors.
- Is able to daily perform any of the required job duties within the processing team. This includes all requirements related to accepting donations, presorting and pricing merchandise.
- Help maintain clean and well organized reception, presort and processing areas.
- Adhere to, daily, all employee policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and the SMCo Thrift Stores’ Mission Statement.
- Ability to recognize quality merchandise and effectively research market value of product.
- Work with and effectively communicate with the Processing Manager, other processing employees and donors on a daily basis.
- Work with store staff in maintaining the physical appearance of the store on every shift, including, but not limited to: communicating and restocking of janitorial and restroom supplies, removing safety hazards, picking up store merchandise and restoring to proper place, cleaning parking lot, sidewalks, windows and doors, store floors, break room(s), restrooms and other public areas, to ensure the safety and health of customers and employees.
Customer / Community
- Provide a friendly and joyful welcoming to all customers and donors when they enter the store and throughout their shopping experience.
- Work with the Processing Management team to establish and maintain customer service standards in order to ensure compliance with the company mission statement and to provide a pleasant shopping experience for each customer.
- Communicate, daily, all events related to customer service issues or problems, register mistakes, employee issues or accidents, and general store operations to the manager, in order to ensure all issues are handled properly and in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Experience / Competencies (Knowledge & Skills)
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace
- 1+ years of processing experience(preferred)
- Performance management and coaching skills
- Training and onboarding experience
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Basic math and cash handling skills
- Professional phone and customer service etiquette
- Ability to travel as needed
- Valid driver’s license (required if travel is part of the role)
Education
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (if required)
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Relevant certifications
Physical Requirements
Must be able to carry, lift, push, and pull items up to 50lbs.
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
