Position Overview
On Point Electric is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Interconnections Specialist to manage California utility interconnection applications for solar and energy-storage projects.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with PG&E interconnection applications, including non-export energy-storage add-ons and meter collar appointment applications, as well as applications for SMUD and Southern California Edison (SCE). Proficiency with applicable utility portals and GIPT application workflows is required.
This is a remote, part-time position for someone who can independently prepare accurate application packages, coordinate meter collar appointments, manage corrections, monitor approvals, and communicate effectively with utilities and internal project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, submit, and manage solar and energy-storage interconnection applications through final utility approval or Permission to Operate.
- Process PG&E applications for new systems, system modifications, energy-storage add-ons, and non-export configurations.
- Prepare, submit, track, and coordinate meter collar appointment applications.
- Communicate with utilities, installation teams, customers, and other stakeholders to schedule and confirm meter collar appointments.
- Verify that required approvals, equipment information, project documents, and site-readiness requirements are complete before meter collar appointments.
- Monitor appointment status and resolve scheduling issues, rejected requests, missing documentation, and utility follow-up items.
- Prepare and manage SMUD and Southern California Edison interconnection applications.
- Complete and track applications through GIPT and other applicable utility portals.
- Review single-line diagrams, site plans, equipment specifications, load calculations, and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Confirm that proposed equipment and system configurations meet utility requirements.
- Identify application deficiencies and coordinate necessary corrections with design, engineering, permitting, and installation teams.
- Respond promptly to utility requests for revisions, clarification, and supplemental documentation.
- Track application milestones, fees, agreements, appointments, inspections, approvals, and Permission to Operate.
- Maintain accurate project notes, records, and status updates.
- Communicate application status, delays, risks, and next steps to internal stakeholders.
- Monitor utility requirements and incorporate procedural changes into company workflows.
- Assist with improving interconnection checklists, templates, and standard operating procedures.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of direct solar or energy-storage interconnection experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency with PG&E interconnection applications and utility systems.
- Direct experience with PG&E non-export energy-storage add-on applications.
- Experience preparing and coordinating meter collar appointment applications.
- Experience preparing SMUD and Southern California Edison applications.
- Proficiency with GIPT application workflows and relevant utility portals.
- Ability to review single-line diagrams, site plans, equipment specifications, and related technical documents.
- Working knowledge of solar PV systems, battery energy-storage systems, meter collars, inverters, service equipment, and utility metering configurations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple applications and appointments simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization, documentation, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both residential and commercial projects.
- Familiarity with non-export controls, power-control systems, operating modes, meter collar devices, and related utility documentation.
- Experience resolving application deficiencies, redesign requests, equipment changes, meter conflicts, appointment delays, and utility approval issues.
- Familiarity with California permitting and inspection processes.
- Experience using CRM or project-management software.
- Knowledge of additional California utility interconnection processes.
Schedule
This is a remote, contract part-time position. Candidates must be available during agreed-upon business hours to coordinate with California utilities and On Point Electric’s project teams. Pay will be per project at first.
