Specialized technical work enforcing zoning, building, and contractor licensing codes and adhering to appropriate ordinances. Reviews/processes building permit applications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes. Disseminates zoning and building information to the general public, contractors, realtors, and architects. Signs off on final zoning approval with the appropriate stamp; applies knowledge of the Palm Beach County (PBC) geographic area and building, zoning, and licensing code knowledge to construction projects and land use situations. Reviews inspection history for complex commercial projects; reviews waiver requests and issues Certificates of Occupancy/Completion. Performs other essential duties in support of departmental objectives. Works under the general supervision of a technical supervisor. Work is reviewed through conferences and re-inspection of permits/plans.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of three (3) years of experience reviewing plats, zoning applications, and/or building permits,
OR
An Associate’s Degree or two (2) years of college-level coursework (must specify 60-semester/90-quarter hours); minimum of one (1) year of experience reviewing plats, zoning applications, and/or building permits.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:
- International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician Certification,
- Experience in real estate,
- Knowledge of construction terminology and procedures (must specify on application),
- Knowledge of the PBC geographic area (must specify on application), and
- Experience with interpreting plans, codes, maps, and other resources for permit review.
