Located in Albany, New York, this office-based nursing position focuses on caring for our pediatric population.

Position Overview
As a Registered Nurse (RN) at St. Catherine’s, you will be a key member of our Residential Team, directly safeguarding the health and well-being of the children in our care. This role perfectly balances clinical expertise with compassionate care, allowing you to manage daily health office operations while embedding yourself in our therapeutic residential community.
Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure: Associate Degree in Nursing with an unencumbered New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Certifications: Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Driving Record: Clean and valid NYS driver’s license, held for at least one (1) year*.

Clinical Experience: Prior experience in pediatric or psychiatric nursing—specifically working with children navigating significant emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal challenges.

Core Capabilities: Strong interpersonal skills, resilience in a fast-paced environment, and a genuine comfort working in close, daily proximity with the children we serve.

Background Check: Ability to successfully pass all required pre-employment background checks, including fingerprinting.
Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Associate-level RNs are acceptable as well.

Crisis Intervention: Previous experience or training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and secure internet practices. Direct experience with AWARDS and NYS Connections data systems is highly beneficial.
- Staff in driving positions must be able to meet the agency’s minimum requirements of our insurance policy for authorized drivers including, but not limited to, the minimum age of 21 at time of hire; with the ability to maintain insurability throughout employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Direct Clinical Care & Case Management

Assess & Treat: Plan and implement basic health assessments for all clients; provide immediate treatment for ill children and coordinate referrals to the emergency room or medical consultants.

Execute Orders: Faithfully implement all physicians' orders, including assisting with weekly Pediatric Clinics.

Daily Rounds: Conduct daily weekday rounds for an assigned caseload, reviewing medical records in each house and consulting with child care workers regarding ongoing care.

Specialized Care Plans: Develop and maintain individualized care plans tailored to the specific medical needs of each client.

Immunizations: Administer vaccines and immunizations to clients as required.
Medication Administration & Safety

MAR Management: Responsibly order prescriptions, accurately transcribe orders onto the Medication Administration Record (MAR), and communicate medication instructions clearly to child care staff.

Medication Reviews: Conduct regular medication reviews and process prescription changes as directed.

Home Visits: Prepare and distribute medications required for client home visits.
Collaborative Care & Communication

Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Interface closely with psychiatrists, nursing staff, and the broader treatment team to address both the physical and mental/emotional health needs of clients.

Staff Updates: Provide seamless communication to the nursing staff and supervisors regarding any specific medical changes or status updates that occur during your shift.

Meetings & Reviews: Actively participate in House Management Meetings, Staff Meetings, Team Meetings, Service Plan Reviews, and client treatment reviews.
Training, Compliance & Administration

Health Education: Conduct health education and illness management training for residential children, family members, and non-medical members of the treatment team.

Documentation: Maintain complete, accurate medical records for all children in the Agency’s care and regularly log data into the NYS Connections system.

Professional Development: Present agency-wide in-service training programs, participate in the orientation of newly hired nursing staff, and cross-train in the Day Treatment Program.
Operational Flexibility

On-Call Coverage: Take on-call phone rotation and provide after-hours coverage on a rotating basis.

Agency Support: Serve on committees as desired or requested, and assume other general nursing or position-related duties as assigned by the Director.
