The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care in the Birth Center through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills. This part-time position requires availability to work a flexible schedule, including some evening, night, and weekend shifts to meet operational needs.
License, Certification, and /or Registration: Registered Nurse, issued by the TN State Board of Nursing, NRP, and CPR certification for Health Care Providers.
2-4 years of Labor & Delivery and/or NICU experience; ideally at least one year of experience in a Birth Center or other healthcare setting.
Bilingual skills English/Spanish preferred.
Technology savvy with experience utilizing electronic medical records.
Thorough knowledge of infection control procedures, universal precautions as established by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Ability to perform any medical procedures as allowed by the Nursing Practice Act of TN.
Experience performing phlebotomy preferred.

Provides direct nursing care to patients seeking Birth Center and wellness services.
Assists with initiation of patient history, physical assessment, and patient vitals.
Maintain effective communications with medical assistants, practitioners, lab staff, counselors, and administrators to ensure complete and accurate identification and treatment of patient needs and/or problems.
Performs point of care testing, specimen collection, administers injections, and perform phlebotomy to obtain lab samples ordered by provider maintaining sterile environment and infection control practices.
Educate patients regarding midwifery care, birth control, and other services or medications at providers’ discretion.
Proactively fulfills patient care responsibilities, identifies, and participates in process improvement initiatives that improve customer experience, enhance workflow, and improve the work environment.
Maintain a clean and professional medical atmosphere.
Recognize and report signs of complications to the nurse clinician.
Respond quickly and efficiently during patient care emergencies (e.g., immediately calling for assistance and emergency cart, efficiently able to insert IV catheter, performing CPR, if indicated).
Thoroughly document all patient follow-up in patient charts, appropriate logs, and complete incident reports when necessary.
Fulfills responsibilities as assigned that may include cleaning of medical equipment and examination rooms ensuring the strict adherence to universal precautions as established by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Maintains accurate and complete documentation for prenatal visits, labor, delivery and immediate postpartum.
Obtains records from hospitals, laboratories, other medical provider offices as needed.
Arranges for patients to receive referral services for specific services as requested by provider.
Maintains confidentiality of patients and follows all HIPAA regulations.
Adheres to strict standards regarding patient confidentiality, informed consent and disclosure as required by HIPAA, Tennessee law and organizational policy.
