Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced bilingual Medical Assistant who is fluent in English and Spanish and comfortable performing phlebotomy when needed.
This position will serve as the practice’s Backup Phlebotomist. Initially, the Medical Assistant will perform the practice’s venipuncture and specimen-processing responsibilities. Once a dedicated phlebotomist is hired, this position will provide phlebotomy coverage during staff absences and high-volume periods.
The ideal candidate has experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Primary Care; is proficient in eClinicalWorks; performs venipuncture independently; and is organized, reliable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Room patients by obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications and allergies, updating medical histories, and documenting required clinical information in eClinicalWorks.
- Assist the physician with examinations, minor office procedures, and other patient-care activities.
- Administer physician-ordered vaccines and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
- Perform venipuncture, specimen collection and processing, EKGs, and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing.
- Coordinate laboratory specimen pickup and related laboratory processes.
- Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and supplies in accordance with OSHA and infection-control standards.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Support daily workflow through pre-visit planning, appointment confirmation, patient communication, scheduling, and accurate documentation.
- Assist with specialist referrals, insurance prior authorizations, prescription refill requests, and physician-authorized communication of test results.
- Review assigned patient messages and clinical tasks and help ensure that pending items are addressed appropriately.
- Collaborate with front-office staff and assist with other clinical or administrative duties as needed to support practice operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of Medical Assistant experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Primary Care.
- Working knowledge of eClinicalWorks required.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture independently.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- High attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to excellent patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant credential.
- Experience with insurance prior authorizations and specialist referrals.
- Experience working in a physician-owned private practice.
- Experience performing EKGs, injections, vaccinations, and point-of-care testing.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, reach, and use a computer throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and move clinical supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to safely perform patient-care activities throughout an eight-hour shift.
Compensation
$18.00–$22.00 per hour, based on experience.

This is currently a part-time position and does not include employee benefits.
As the practice continues to grow, the position may transition into a full-time role. Future full-time employees may become eligible for benefits such as Paid Time Off, health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance, subject to practice growth and applicable eligibility requirements.
