Position Summary
The Human Resources Assistant is responsible for supporting day-to-day Human Resources operations while assisting with payroll administration, employee onboarding, benefits, and HR compliance activities. This role provides administrative support to the Human Resources department and assists with multi-state payroll processing, employee record maintenance, and payroll-related inquiries. The ideal candidate will have prior payroll experience and strong organizational skills, with Paychex experience considered a strong asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily HR administrative functions and employee lifecycle activities
- Assist with multi-state payroll processing and payroll data verification
- Support payroll administration, including employee deductions, benefits, garnishments, and 401(k) changes
- Maintain accurate payroll and HR records in HRIS and payroll systems
- Assist with employee onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes
- Coordinate I-9 verification, employment documentation, and compliance tracking
- Support benefits enrollment and employee changes
- Respond to employee payroll and HR-related inquiries professionally and confidentially
- Assist with maintaining employee files and HR documentation
- Support recruiting coordination, interview scheduling, and candidate communication
- Prepare HR reports and maintain accurate employee records
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company employment regulations
- Assist with HR training coordination and employee communications
- Support process improvements and payroll transition initiatives under HR
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in HR and payroll will be considered.
- 2+ years of Human Resources or administrative experience required
- Payroll experience required, including exposure to multi-state payroll processing
- Experience with Paychex payroll systems considered an asset
- Knowledge of HR compliance, onboarding, benefits, and payroll administration
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams)
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discret

Working Conditions

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
