Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our educational team as a SPED Paraeducator. This full-time position involves supporting students with special needs in their academic and social development. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment, ensuring that all students receive the individualized attention they require to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in various educational settings, including classrooms and resource rooms.
- Help students with personal care and daily living skills as needed, including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff to develop and adapt instructional materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Support the social and emotional development of students by encouraging positive interactions and conflict resolution skills.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, ensuring that materials and equipment are accessible and in good condition.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
- Assist with classroom management and behavior management strategies to promote a positive learning atmosphere.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administration.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with students with special needs or in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education laws, practices, and strategies for supporting diverse learners.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students with special needs succeed.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviors with professionalism and composure.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
- Certification or training in first aid and CPR is a plus.
- Ability to lift and assist students as needed, in accordance with safety guidelines.
