Position Summary
The Purchasing Agent / Procurement Specialist plays a key role in supporting project teams by sourcing materials, negotiating pricing, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery of critical components. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic, deadline driven environment.
Key Responsibilities

Evaluate electrical suppliers based on price, availability, service quality, and reliability.

Meet with vendors and visit supplier facilities to understand product offerings, capabilities, and pricing structures.

Negotiate contracts and pricing to secure competitive deals and support project cost goals.

Verify material needs by reviewing project plans, specifications, and estimates.

Coordinate with suppliers to schedule deliveries and resolve shipping or order discrepancies.

Authorize payments and maintain accurate records, receipts, and inventory documentation.

Attend industry trade shows to stay current on new products, technologies, and market trends.

Research and compare manufacturers, goods, and services to support informed purchasing decisions.

Select suppliers based on cost efficiency, product quality, and long term reliability.

Monitor lead times and anticipate purchasing needs for active projects.

Request cost proposals and negotiate terms to support project budgets.

Prepare and process purchase orders for project teams.

Maintain organized records of all transactions, purchase orders, and deliveries.

Schedule, track, and verify purchase order deliveries.

Build and maintain strong, long term relationships with suppliers and vendors.

Recommend parts and materials based on field work order requests.

Support field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and project managers by phone and email.
Required Skills and Abilities

High school diploma or GED required.

Degree in business administration, management, or related field preferred.

Previous experience as a purchasing agent, procurement specialist, project engineer, or similar role.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.

Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Excellent organization and documentation abilities.

Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
