Position Summary
The Controller / Accounting Manager (CAM) is a key member of the Administration Team at S&S Midwest Fire Protection LLC. This highly trusted role is an integral part of the finance team and is responsible for safeguarding the company’s financial integrity, sensitive information, and funds on behalf of the company and its shareholders.
The CAM ensures that all financial and administrative operations run efficiently and accurately, delivers timely analysis and reporting to leadership, upholds policies and procedures, and serves as a strategic right-hand to the Vice President/CBO while supporting the CEO and COO on financial and administrative matters. The role also provides guidance, coaching, and hands-on support to the finance team and collaborates across all departments to promote accountability and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions as directed by the Vice President/CBO; support business unit leaders with periodic reporting and problem-solving recommendations.
- Lead, manage, coach, and mentor the finance team; provide hands-on support and lead by example.
- Maintain current accounting operations; recommend and implement process improvements that benefit the business.
- Manage the accumulation, consolidation, and accurate recording of all financial data to produce timely and reliable consolidated results and reports.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor business performance metrics; assist the Vice President/CBO with related reporting.
- Establish and oversee job costing processes to measure project and company profitability.
- Provide management with critical financial information to support decision-making; maintain and present the weekly Cash-Flow Management Report (CMR) with recommendations to the Executive Management Team.
- Oversee Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions; train, manage, and support A/R and A/P staff to ensure timely, accurate invoicing, collections, and vendor payments.
- Prepare and coordinate internal and external financial statements and reviews in a timely manner.
- Coordinate activities and communication with external CPA firms and auditors.
- Lead the annual budget process by working with all S&S companies and department heads to develop the company-wide budget.
- Evaluate and strengthen accounting systems and internal controls; recommend and implement improvements to processes, controls, and policies.
- Maintain the accounting software (QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise); ensure accurate, up-to-date entries and resolve related issues with external parties as needed.
- Oversee regulatory reporting, tax planning, and compliance; ensure timely government tax filings and collaborate with external accountants on annual filings, reviews, and certified statements.
- Participate in management meetings and initiatives as directed by the Vice President/CBO.
- Interface with all departments to provide financial administrative support and services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of advanced degree).
- 5–7+ years of progressive experience in accounting and corporate finance with emphasis on fiscal management, revenue management, and cost accounting.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Solid understanding of financial concepts including accrual accounting, cost control, and risk management.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform effective risk analysis.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office (strong Excel skills required); experience with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise preferred. Familiarity with BuildOps ERP is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with accounts payable/receivable, invoicing, sub-contracts, purchase orders, asset/liability recording, and basic payroll support.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking abilities with exceptional attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as CPA or CMA.
- Experience with job costing and construction-related financial practices.
- Advanced experience with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.
- Experience with BuildOps, or similar ERP systems.

Compensation based on experience.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
