About the Role American Anthracite is seeking a strong, operationally focused Plant Supervisor to lead our processing plant team. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of the anthracite preparation plant during your assigned shift.
We are looking for a hands-on leader who understands coal processing, can troubleshoot equipment issues (such as material blockages and screen maintenance), and can effectively manage a crew of plant and utility operators to meet our daily production targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Oversee the daily operations of the processing plant, ensuring raw run-of-mine (ROM) anthracite is efficiently crushed, washed, separated, and sized to meet commercial quality standards.
- Safety & Compliance: Champion a zero-harm safety culture. Ensure all crew members strictly adhere to MSHA regulations and internal safety protocols. Conduct daily safety meetings and regular site inspections.
- Production & Quality Control: Monitor feed rates, equipment performance, and material flow to maximize yield and prevent downtime. Ensure muddy or out-of-spec material is handled correctly to prevent hopper and scalper blockages.
- Team Management: Supervise, train, and mentor plant operators and utility personnel. Manage shift schedules, enforce company policies (including attendance), and complete performance evaluations.
- Maintenance Coordination: Work closely with the maintenance team to communicate mechanical issues, schedule preventative maintenance, and minimize equipment downtime.
- Reporting: Complete accurate shift production reports, safety logs, and handover notes for the incoming shift supervisor and Plant Superintendent.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3-5+ years of operational experience in a coal preparation plant, aggregate processing facility, or similar heavy industrial environment. Previous supervisory or lead operator experience is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of processing equipment, including crushers, screens, heavy media vessels, cyclones, and conveyors.
- Safety First: Current MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 Surface Miner training required. A proven track record of leading teams safely.
- Problem Solving: Ability to think quickly on your feet, troubleshoot plant bottlenecks, and make operational decisions under pressure.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to give clear, direct instructions to the crew and communicate effectively with plant management.
- Physical & Schedule Demands: Ability to navigate the plant (including climbing stairs and catwalks) and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be flexible to work required shifts, including potential overtime or weekends.
