Guided by the mission and charter of L’Arche, the overall responsibility of the Development & Engagement Coordinator is to develop and lead a fundraising and engagement/communications strategy that will engage the larger community to provide the resources necessary for L’Arche Portland to achieve its mission. This role is responsible for fundraising operations, donor stewardship, communications, event management, volunteer engagement, and constituent relationship management.
Status: Full Time Salaried Position; includes some evenings and weekends

Salary Range: DOE, starting at $53,000
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
Development
- Annual creation of the fundraising strategy
- Along with the Executive Director, play a leading role in stewarding donors
- Develop and monitor fundraising project budgets
- Strategically deploy the Executive Director in development efforts
- Partner with the contract grant writer, providing budgets, program materials, and organizational data to meet grant application and reporting deadlines
- Lead and coordinate planning and execution of annual fundraising events in collaboration with staff, volunteers, committees, consultants, sponsors, and vendors
- Track and send thank you notes for in-kind contributions and thank you calls for donations
- Represent and speak about L'Arche Portland at public-facing opportunities.
Communications
- Create content for and oversee an external newsletter and social media
- Produce the annual report, including collection of necessary data throughout the year
- Maintain donor database, including continual work to achieve clean data, automated revenue reporting and more streamlined gift processing procedures
- Collaborate with the Director of Community Life to maintain and update the L’Arche Portland website
- Create printed marketing materials in Canva
- Spend time in community, identifying and amplifying stories from core members, assistants and staff, board and family members that describe impact
- Gather and organize photos; track permissions for photo use
- Create training for staff around appropriate use of photos and media
Events & Community Engagement
- Lead planning and execution of annual fundraising and community engagement events
- Coordinate vendors, venues, volunteers, sponsors, speakers, entertainers, and event logistics
- Build and manage event registration systems, ticketing, sponsorship fulfillment, and attendee communications
- Conduct sponsorship outreach and cultivate relationships with local businesses, foundations, and community partners to secure event sponsorships, auction donations, and other forms of support
- Develop event timelines, budgets, and post-event evaluations
- Support fundraising initiatives beyond traditional events, including participation in seasonal fundraising activities such as the Christmas Tree sale for the months of November and December, which requires outdoor work in varying weather conditions including weekends
Organizational Leadership
- Integral member of the leadership team
- Participate in and occasionally lead staff meetings
- Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director, helping identify opportunities, solve challenges, and advance organizational priorities
- Commitment to the mission of L’Arche Portland
- Participate in the L’Arche USA Fundraising Community of Practice
- High degree of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and discretion
- Participate in the community life of L’Arche Portland (formations, community celebrations, birthdays) including occasional evenings and weekends
- Regular meeting with Director of Community Life around social media scheduling, website updating, volunteer and grant tracking
- Other duties as assigned
Preference of experience in the following:
- Establishing trusting relationships with donors and volunteers
- Donor portfolio management and donor stewardship
- Developing and tracking event and project budgets
- Using data to measure fundraising program performance and identify fundraising opportunities
- Creating compelling donor communications and stewardship messaging
- Using Bloomerang or another CRM to track all donor contacts, gifts, and communications, volunteer engagement, event participation, and constituent relationships
- Experience working for an organization that uses an equity filter for decision making and employs inclusive and accessible practices
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously while balancing competing priorities and deadlines
