Title: Psychiatrist (Part Time) Job Code: 200100

Reports to: Director of Psychiatry
Position Summary
The Psychiatrist shall:
- Provide psychiatric evaluation, consultation, and treatment services for adult inpatients throughout the hospital, including the Emergency Department.
- Deliver expert psychiatric consultation to primary medical providers on Medical-Surgical units and within the Emergency Department.
- Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment recommendations for patients presenting with psychiatric conditions and behavioral health concerns.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and provide recommendations regarding psychiatric management and disposition.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation in accordance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and departmental goals related to patient safety, quality of care, and operational efficiency.
- Perform primarily clinical duties with minimal administrative responsibilities.
- Work scheduled weekday shifts consisting of eight (8) hours per day.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
2. Provides psychiatric evaluations and consultations for adult patients admitted throughout the hospital.
3. Evaluates patients presenting to the Emergency Department and provides recommendations for treatment, admission, transfer, or discharge as appropriate.
4. Consults with attending physicians and other members of the healthcare team regarding psychiatric diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing patient management.
5. Documents all patient encounters, consultations, assessments, and treatment recommendations in a timely and accurate manner.
6. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds, case discussions, and treatment planning activities.
7. Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary personnel regarding patient care and treatment recommendations.
8. Maintains compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and professional practice guidelines.
9. Participates in departmental quality improvement and performance improvement activities as requested.
10. Attends departmental meetings, educational programs, and other professional activities as required.
11. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors
12. Performs all other related duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements
1. Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
2. Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
3. Current and unrestricted New York State Medical License.
4. Current DEA Certificate.
5. Board Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) is required. Candidates who are Board Eligible will be considered but must obtain Board Certification within three (3) years of the commencement date of employment and maintain certification thereafter in accordance with hospital credentialing requirements.
6. Board Eligibility or Certification in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry is required.
7. Previous experience in a Psychiatric Emergency Room, Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), or Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry setting preferred.
8. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
9. Compliance with all applicable hospital, state, and federal credentialing and continuing medical education requirements.
