Position Overview
The Wastewater/Boiler Room Manager oversees daily operations of the wastewater treatment and boiler room departments to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant performance. This role supervises and supports wastewater and boiler operators, manages preventative maintenance programs, and ensures adherence to regulatory, safety, and quality standards. The Supervisor will work closely with the Wastewater Manager to optimize performance, reduce downtime, and ensure that both wastewater and boiler systems operate effectively to support production.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Leadership
- Provide daily direction, scheduling, and oversight to wastewater and boiler operators.
- Train, coach, and mentor team members, ensuring compliance with safety policies and operational procedures.
- Monitor performance, conduct evaluations, and assist the Wastewater Manager with staffing decisions.
- Serve as the point of contact for operational issues during assigned shifts.
Operations & Compliance
- Oversee wastewater treatment operations, including centrifuge performance, wastewater testing, and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure boiler room operations meet safety, efficiency, and environmental standards; monitor daily logs and address variances.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and ensure proper documentation of equipment logs and inspections.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Supervise preventive maintenance activities for motors, pumps, centrifuges, boilers, compressors, water softeners, and support systems.
- Apply strong mechanical aptitude to identify and resolve issues across wastewater and boiler equipment.
- Utilize effective troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to minimize downtime and ensure reliable operations.
- Interpret and apply technical manuals, schematics, and drawings when diagnosing and repairing equipment.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff for repairs, modifications, or installations.
Safety & Quality Assurance
- Enforce company safety programs, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and PPE compliance.
- Promote and model a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
- Ensure quality standards are met in wastewater treatment processes and boiler operations.
Administrative & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance, and compliance logs.
- Assist in developing SOPs and process improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Report operational concerns, incidents, and recommendations to the Wastewater Manager.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in wastewater treatment, boiler operations, or industrial utilities.
- Strong leadership skills.
- GED or High School Diploma required; Technical/Trade School or State Certification in Wastewater or Boiler Operations strongly preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with effective troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Computer proficiency, with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and operating instructions.
- Proficiency in maintenance/safety of industrial equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and walk stairs throughout the facility daily.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Forklift operator certification preferred.
Work Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, some Saturdays
- 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM – must be flexible with hours to cover 3 shifts
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
