American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.

12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, 36 hours per week
-
35-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a consistent census of 35 patients
-
Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, post-op surgeries, and common co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
-
RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6, supported by LPNs and 2-3 CNAs per shift
-
Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts on a 6-week schedule

No on-call or callback responsibilities

Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility

EMR: Epic (experience noted)

Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Glucommander, PCA pain management, bladder scanners, and portable vital signs monitors

Active GA or compact RN license required

BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certifications required; candidates must pass an EKG competency exam

ACLS preferred but not required

Medical-Surgical national certification preferred

Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required

Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and rate-titrating cardiac drips

Skills in IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, post-op monitoring, and cardiac telemetry interpretation

Level 1 Trauma hospital or academic teaching hospital experience strongly preferred

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Level 1 Trauma designated academic teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds, a Chest Pain Center, and a Stroke Center
-
Unit is supported by a unit secretary (7a-11p), a house-wide call secretary overnight, charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, a resource float team, and 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage

Central Telemetry Unit provides centralized cardiac monitoring support

Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation

Holiday expectations require working one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)

RTO requests require manager approval

RN scrub color is Navy

Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
