Overview: Cignys is a reputable defense and aerospace manufacturer based in Saginaw, Michigan, specializing in high-quality components for the defense industry. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Quality Inspector, Levels 1 and 2.
As a Quality Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our products meet stringent quality standards and comply with industry regulations. This requires a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of inspection techniques and procedures.
Level 1 inspectors will be responsible for performing basic inspections, identifying defects, and assisting in the documentation process. Level 2 inspectors will be expected to take on more complex inspection tasks, provide mentorship to Level 1 inspectors, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the quality assurance department.

Responsibilities
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections of First Articles, First Pieces, and In-Process checks, in accordance with product specifications
- Follow & develop standard work instructions and procedures according to ISO 9001 & AS9100D
- Enforce quality standards by recording inspection results accurately and escalating non-conformances, providing recommendations for CAPA (Corrective & Preventative Actions)
- Participate in and identify opportunities for continuous improvement activities and associated training
- Provide necessary training to L1 inspectors and other staff, as needed
- Issue quality alerts, non-conformances, defective material reports, and recommend disposition actions
- Perform data entry tasks such as First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), and In-Process Inspection Sheets (IPISs)
- Participate in internal audit activities to identify and correct gaps in processes and documentation
- Ensure that quality management system and process are being followed
- Adhere to and support the policies concerning Quality and Environmental, Health and Safety

Requirements:
- Strong engineering drawing reading skills with GD&T (ASME Y14.100 & Y14.5)
- Proficient in the use of common inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, Go/NoGo gauges, height gauges, thread gauges, gauge blocks, dial/test indicators, profilometers, optical comparators, etc.
- Create and execute basic CMM, laser tracker, and/or inspection arm programs.
- Basic mathematics ability in arithmetic (dimensions, tolerances, limits), trigonometry, and statistics.
- Experience in quality management systems such as AS9100D, ISO9001, and/or IATF16949
- Ability to use Windows based computers for email, submitting inspection findings, attend virtual meetings, completing reports, saving documentation, etc.
- Ability to confidently articulate inspection findings via written and verbal communication
- Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Occasional travel to different locations may be necessary to assist the quality department as needed
Standards & Expectations:
- Consistently produces accurate, repeatable inspection results across a wide range of part complexities
- Independently validates product conformance, with or without defined work instructions
- Selects appropriate measurement methods and tools based on part features, tolerances, and requirements, if not previously defined
- Identifies nonconformances early, including subtle or systemic issues, and escalates with recommendations
- Independently dispositions nonconforming product within defined authority, exercising sound judgment and accountability
- Ensures all inspection and quality documentation is complete, accurate, and fully traceable, and assists with the creation and submission of said documentation (FAIRs)
- Demonstrates strong understanding and application of engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection requirements
- Supports and reinforces standard work, while identifying gaps and contributing to improvements in processes and documentation
- Trains and supports L1 inspectors and other staff, ensuring proper technique, consistency, and adherence to standards
- Actively participates in internal audits and CAPA activities, contributing to identification, resolution, and prevention of issues
