Position Summary
Supports the driver onboarding/orientation function by conducting training and testing for CDL drivers, including driver orientation, defensive driving, road test evaluations, and remedial driving training; as well as other tasks related to driver onboarding/orientation.
Role and Responsibilities
- Coordinates and conducts driver orientation training, defensive driving training, as well as additional and/or remedial driver training and evaluation
- Evaluates training effectiveness and recommends program modifications to improve driver performance, safety, retention, and regulatory compliance
- Conducts quality audits on empty tractors and stages ready tractors for drivers completing onboarding/orientation
- Conducts DOT drug screen collections
- Collaborates with other departments to develop strategic onboarding and driver development initiatives
- Reviews driver hours of service information, paperwork, and qualification cards for training purposes
- Completes and assists onboarding drivers with all necessary paperwork throughout the onboarding/orientation process
- Assists drivers during initial tractor assignment when needed, providing truck systems and onboard communication system support and training
- Exercises independent judgment in determining driver readiness for assignment and recommending additional training or remedial action
- Maintains inventory of orientation supplies and restocks as needed
- Maintains acceptable Company safety clearance record
- Serves as a subject matter expert and resource for management regarding driver onboarding, training, and qualification requirements
- Performs duties of a Driver as needed
- Travels to off-site locations as required
- Receives and carries out instructions
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance
- Performs general clerical duties and special projects as needed

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively deliver training and instruction to groups or individuals for one-on-one instruction and/or remedial training
- Ability to write reports, take attendance and perform other customary paperwork associated with adult training and education
- Ability to read, write, and speak English, see and hear in accordance with DOT regulations
- Ability to provide detailed, constructive feedback to students
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Qualified CDL driver, three to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. at times
- Ability to sit, walk, balance, twist, stoop, climb, push/pull, kneel, crouch
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
Certified Instructor in Smith Systems defensive driving course
Valid Commercial Driver's License
Current DOT Medical Examination Report and Physical Medical card
Breath Alcohol Technician and Specimen Collector for Drug Testing as required by supervisor
